Fitness Classes - April
As a reminder, due to COVID-19, the GRC had to modify the registration process for its fitness classes, including pre-registration. Please see below. APRIL CLASSS SCHEDULE IS LOCATED BELOW THE REGISTRATION INFORMATION.
- Classes are open to both GRC Members and non-members. GRC Members pay Resident Rate for classes.
- Pre-registration is required for each class. Registration is accepted both online (www.groveportrec.com) and in-person.
- Registration opens 2-weeks prior to class offering and closes 24-hours before the class begins. Exception: If the class has met its minimum enrollment requirement and space is still available in the class, on-site drop-in registration will remain open. $2 additional fee for day of class on-site registration.
- Only credit card & debit card will be accepted (no cash, checks or fitness freedom passes).
- Fitness Freedom Passes may not be used at this time. Persons with balances on an existing Fitness Freedom Pass may request a refund or may use the passes at a late date (post COVID-19). Refund requests should be made to Ebonee Green (Administrative Assistant) at egreen@groveport.org..
- Classes must meet a minimum enrollment to take place.
- In the event that a class does not meet the minimum enrollment requirement, registered persons will notified and refunds will be applied to credit or debit card.
- No refunds (or class credit) will be available if you fail to attend a class.
- Do not arrive any sooner than 5-minutes prior to your scheduled class time.
- Please check-in for your class at the front desk. We are required to note your attendance in our capacity count. Please exit through the turnstile between the check-in desk and registration desk so we can account for your leaving the facility.
- Classes may be held in the Group Fitness Studio, Gymnasium and Multi-Purpose Rooms.
- SilverSneakers classes must have a minimum of 9 participants to show up in-person in order for the class to run. If less than 9 are present at class time, the class will be cancelled. Participants may sign-in 15-minutes before their scheduled class. There is no pre-registration for SilverSneakers. Kathy Frank and Bonnie Coleman have committed to being at the GRC for March for the SilverSneakers classes, but need your committed participation. SilverSneakers classes are for SilverSneakers Members ONLY at this time.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
All classes are open to persons 13 years of age unless otherwise noted.
Aqua Zumba
Known as the Zumba "Pool Party", Aqua Zumba gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. Splashing, stretching, twisting, even shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during an Aqua Zumba class. Integrating the Zumba formula & philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that's cardio-conditioning, body toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief. Arthritis Aquatics Program
This class is designed to accommodate the abilities of persons with arthritis and other related diseases. Individuals work at their own pace and are taught in a group setting to help improve muscular strength, endurance & flexibility. Participation may also help with pain management and help to relieve arthritic symptoms. The program is held in the GRC's indoor heated pool. The pool was designed to accommodate many water activities, including: lap swimming, swim lessons, water aerobics, leisure swimming, etc. The National Arthritis Foundation has developed water temp standards for this class (min of 83 F). & the GRC attempts to meet those standards. However, there may be times when the water fall may fall below 83 F due to mechanical issues. The NAF recommends that participants keep moving in the water throughout the class and if necessary, wear a hat, leotards, gloves or t-shirt to maintain body heat. Instructor: Kathy Frank
Arthritis Land Based
Developed for people with Arthritis, this program helps maintain fitness while reducing arthritis pain. The class offers warm-up, endurance, cool-down, stretch & relaxation. Created and approved by the Arthritis Foundation. Wear comfortable clothing, supportive shoes and bring water. Instructor: Kathy Frank
Barre
This class is an exciting fitness workout integrating ballet inspired Pilates moves. The barre gives you concentrated toning and allows you to achieve body balance, build lean muscle, and have fun doing it. Be ready to tone your entire body and maximize your cardiovascular health with this low impact workout. No previous ballet dancing required. Instructor: Ann Neu
Everything But The Weights
Strengthen and tone your body without using weights. This class incorporates bands, large & small balls, straps, your own body weight and anything we can find, except weights. Discover how to get maximum results without increasing body mass. A super workout incorporating moves that really work. This class is medium intensity. Instructor: Bonnie Coleman.
Pilates
This class will help build flexibility, muscle strength & endurance in the legs, abs, arms, hips and back. It will help you develop a strong core & improve coordination and balance. Mats, exercise balls and light weights are used. Instructor: Ann Neu
SilverSneakers Classic
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance. Chairs is utilized for seated and standing support. Must be a SilverSneakers Member to attend. SilverSneakers Spin
Indoor Cycling or Spinning is a group exercise class with stationary bikes. The intensity of the workout is influenced by cadence (or pedal rate), resistance of the bike's flywheel, and by the rider's body position (seated or standing while pedaling). Participants determine their own levels of exertion while the instructor encourages and motivates class members throughout the session. Instructor: Lori Bias
SilverSneakers Strength
A strength class is primarily an anaerobic activity that uses weights, resistance tools and one's own body weight to induce muscular contraction, which builds the strength & endurance of muscles. This type of class will help increase bone density, increase metabolism, improve joint function and provide significant functional benefits for improved activities of daily living. SilverSneakers Yoga
Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual discipline originating in ancient India. While stretching is certainly involved, yoga is also about creating balance in the body through developing both strength & flexibility. This is done through performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. Participants will will ned to have the ability to get down to and up from the ground (yoga mat). Step Aerobics
A set of aerobic exercises designed to improved the cardiovascular system, which consists of stepping on and off of a special box of adjustable height. Instructor: Ronnie Williams
Stretch To Fitness
This class begins with muscle strengthening using weights, mats and small fitness balls, followed with different stretching techniques while on the floor, sitting and standing. Instructor: Kath Frank.
Tae Kwon Do/Karate Ki Do (Beginner/White Belts)
Our classes are all inclusive. Even though we take students as young as 6 years old, this is not just a "kids class". Teens and adults are strongly encouraged to participate. For new students, this class will familiarize you with the most basic techniques that we teach and will give you enough time to make an informed decision as to whether or not you wish to learn more. Registration is on going. Fee: $28 Resident / $48 Non-Res. Instructor: Rich Evans
Tae Kwon Do/Karate Ki Do (Yellow/2nd Blue Belts)
For intermediate students. You have decided that you enjoy what what we teach and wish to learn more. Students registering for this class must have reached at least the rank of 1st Yellow Belt, through our tests. Students who reach the rank of 2nd Blue Belt are considered to be graduates of this program. Registration is on-going. $38 Res. / $58 Non-Res. Instructor: Rich Evans
Tae Kwon Do / Karate Ki Do (Main Class)
Only for our committed students who desire to become Black Belts! This class sets the bar high. Students in the class must first be formally invited to join by Master Evans. Students lower in rank than 2nd Blue Belt can also join this class through Master Evans' invitation. All invited candidates will be required to be exceptional in their commitment to being good students and mentors. Registration is on-going. Fee: 1 person ($60); Family of 2 ($110); Family of 3 ($145); each person over 3 ($35).
Tai Chi (Advanced)
Participants will learn a popular style called Yang 24. This is a good class for those who have a good understanding of Tai Chi and have practiced some form of Tai Chi in the past. This class is not recommended for beginners. Instructor: Mark Henry
Tai Chi (Beginners)
Participants will learn the fundamentals & principles of Tai Chi. This is a good class for those who have little or no experience and want to learn the basics. Instructor: Mark Henry
Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention
Sun (soong) Style Tai Chi has been proven to be safe and effective for people with Arthritis and may help to reduce falls. It is part of the Dr. Paul Lam Tai Chi for Health Series. Chairs will be available. Instructor: Mark Henry
TRX Total Body
Each session incorporates TRX suspension training combined with body weight exercises to strengthen, tone and stretch in a fun and relaxed group setting. Beginner to intermediate fitness levels welcome. Please inform the instructor in advance if modifications are needed. Instructor: Jordan James
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
This class is a flow yoga which incorporates energetic movement through a series of seamless postures by which the participant experiences a sense of fluid physical motion. The class combines physical exercise, mental meditation and breathing technique to strengthen the core, move muscles and joints through their complete range, and relieve physical and mental stress. Soft lighting, ambient music and essential oils are used to enhance the experience and create a safe & calming space. Instructor: Ronnie Williams
Water Aerobics
These classes are designed for all levels of fitness. You decide how intense the workout will be. Men & women of all ages are encouraged to participate. This class has cardio, strengthening exercises, deep water conditioning & stretching. Please bring bathing suit, towel water shoes (to wear in the pool) and a water bottle. Zumba With Kathy
This class is a balance of cardio and muscle-toning. Cardio based dance movements are easy to follow. Steps that include body sculpting, targeting gluteus, legs, arms, core, abs and the most import muscle, your heart. All fitness levels are welcome. Work at your own pace. Instructor: Kathy Frank
Zumba (Stretch & Tone)
Experience your favorite Zumba class with more! This hybrid class format includes 35-minutes of Zumba, 15-minutes of stretch & tone and a 10-minute stretch. Instructor: Kathy Frank
