Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Class
The purpose of the A.R.C. Water Safety Instructor Course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses & presentations in the A.R.C. Swimming & Water Safety Program (including the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety Courses, six levels of Learn-To-Swim, three levels of Preschool Aquatics and two levels of Parent & Child Aquatics) by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress
PRE-REQUISITES:
To be eligible to take the A.R.C. WSI Course, students must:
Be at least 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled lesson of the course.
Have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Instructor Training course. Possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate issued within the last year or possess a current national Health & Safety Services Instructor Authorization Certificate.
Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills: *Swim the following strokes consistent with the A.R.C. swimming Level 4: Front Crawl (25 yards), Back Crawl (25 yards), Breaststroke (25 yards), Elementary Backstroke (25 yards), Sidestroke (25 yards), Butterfly (15 yards). * Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling). * Tread water for 1 minute.
Participants will be tested on the first day of class. Participants not meeting the pre-requisite will be directed to enroll in Learn-To-Swim.
