Description of our Park System
The Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for reserving a number of facilities in the parks, including shelters, athletic fields and the historic Log Cabin. The Parks & Recreation Department’s maintenance team also maintains the Groveport Recreation Center, Groveport Aquatic Center and many other undeveloped neighborhood parks/greenways at the present time.
GROVEPORT PARK (7370 Groveport Road)
This 82-acre park features the Groveport Recreation & Senior Center, Groveport Aquatic Center, ball diamonds, soccer fields, EVOS playground, paved leisure paths (approx. 1.8 mile), two ponds with fountains, historical Lock, large expanses of green space and over 100 newly planted trees. Fishing is permitted at the two ponds. Groveport Park connects with Blacklick Park and Rager Road via an unpaved foot/bike path at the northwest end of the property.
CRUISER PARK (4677 Bixby Road)
This 52-acre athletic-type park is home to numerous soccer ﬁelds and a large wetland. Soccer goals are pulled off of the site in the summer and winter months to let the turf rest and re-establish. The fields are primarily used for Parks & Recreation Department sponsored athletic events. A portion of the Foor Leisure Path winds through Cruiser Park.
BLACKLICK PARK (770 Blacklick Street)
Enjoy bounds of shade in this 3-acre park during the summer and beautiful colors in the fall under some of Groveport’s largest trees. Walk the tow path along the once booming Ohio and Erie Canal. Visitors can take a quarter mile stroll to see the historic and only lock in Groveport “Lock 22.” Keep your eye out for turkey, fox and deer. Other features of the park include picnic shelter, playground equipment, benches and charcoal grills. The Blacklick Park leisure path connects to Groveport Park and Rager Road.
DEGENHART PARK (355 Lesleh Avenue)
Degenhart Park is a 3.5-acre park with many amenities, including three lighted tennis courts, basketball pad, picnic shelter, playground equipment, charcoal grills, restroom (open seasonally), drinking fountain and internal sidewalks. Plenty of shade trees can also be found inside this park.
HERITAGE PARK (551 Wirt Road)
Located on over 15-acres, Heritage Park is home to the historic Groveport Log House. The Log House was originally built in 1815 and was moved from the intersection of Madison & Main Streets to its current location in Heritage Park. The Log House is available for rent. The Community Affairs Dept. (614-836-3333) also offers a number of Nature Center programs at the historic Log House. Kids and adults can both be found with their rod and reel at Palm’s Pond. The pond is stocked annually by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Surrounding the pond is a ¾ mile crushed stone leisure path with resting benches and grills. Along the southwest corner of the pond is a picnic shelter. Concerts are periodically held at the Heritage Park Stage during the summer months. The Annual Apple Butter Day Festival takes place at Heritage Park in October. The Groveport Community Garden was also added to the park in the spring of 2012.
VETERANS PARK (421 Main Street)
Four district areas in Groveport Veteran’s Park honor those who served our country’s armed forces. Donor’s Common – benches, ﬂag poles, and a drinking fountain from a brick plaza at the Main Street entrance. Peace Garden – a reﬂective site surrounded by evergreens and shade trees. Honor Court – displaying a stately monument, a podium, and plaza of inscribed bricks. Quiet Garden – landscaped with ornamental trees and access to the park for those who require handicapped parking.
ORCHARD PARK (5079 Cherry Blossom Drive)
Located in The Orchard Subdivision, this 2.33-acre neighborhood park is lined with relatively young trees (arboretum) and also includes playground equipment. On-street parking is available.
GREENPOINTE BUSINESS PARK (4995 London Groveport Road)
Nestled amongst the many thriving businesses within the Groveport Commerce Center is a 32-acre park. This park offers a large pond, paved leisure path, picnic tables and benches. This property is maintained by Duke Realty Corporation.
